Blockchain technology is a tool, which means it can be used for good purposes or bad purposes. I saw all the ways that this technology could be used for social good. Things like making digital payments faster, putting our archives on the blockchain so our state historical documents would not be affected if there was a wildfire or a flood. England used blockchain technology to track the temperature of Covid-19 vaccines across the supply chain, and I thought as a law professor what could I do to help policy makers and regulators recognize all of the social good potential of this technology. That's when the center was born. The mission of the blockchain law for social good Center has three pillars education, hosting conferences, workshops, as well as webinars for government officials, including the California Department of Motor Vehicles, the National Association of attorneys generals, and others. Community building, bringing folks onto campus, and really building a network of those who believe in this technology's potential for social good and research and policy creating white papers and other research documents that will enable policy makers, regulators, and lawyers to think about this technology in a new way. I think it's incredibly interesting to have both the blockchain law and the center here at USF because it's such an untapped area within the legal field, and there's so much to learn about, there's so much to discuss, and it's constantly evolving. Professor Neitz is teaching us how to rethink blockchain and the technology and how we can apply it to different aspects of life and society that we haven't really thought of before. To be able to spread this wealth of knowledge through crypto to everyone in the industry and be able to partake in the industry firsthand is definitely exciting. blockchain is an up-and-coming field and to have USF there at the beginning I think is good for its students and the school itself. I'm so delighted to be part of USF law. This community has been incredibly welcoming and our mission at the center really aligns with usf's mission. The concept of social justice and using the law for good is tailor-made for what we're doing at the center.
